By breaking the drawing process down into simple aspects, this 4-session course will help students learn how to see and depict shape, value, and texture, to build up a final portrait.
Come to improve drawing and observational skills and learn how to capture a face’s likeness on the page!
Session 1: Overview of Value and Shape
Session 2: Texture and Composition
Session 3: Measuring and Observation
Session 4: Long Portrait Session
Please bring the following materials to the first class:
Drawing pencils: B, 3B, 6B
1 Kneaded eraser
1 Mars plastic eraser
1 small box of vine or willow charcoal medium size
For paper I recommend:
18” x 24” newsprint pad for warmup sketches and process work
18” x 24” drawing paper for more finished or refined drawings and value drawings
Recommend :
1 drawing clipboard or sketch pad board. These are typically approx. 23 x 26 and allow you to clip your pad to a rigid board while you are working. A piece of hardboard cut to fit your pad and a clip could also work well.
