MIT Professional Education is proud to sponsor the MIT Summer Philharmonic Orchestra (MITSPO), which is triumphantly returning to the stage for its 24th season! Join us for an unforgettable night of live music featuring performances of Tchaikovsky and Scriabin by some of the top musicians from MIT and the Greater Boston area.
The annual classical music concert, which is open to the public and free for all to attend, returns to the MIT Kresge Auditorium in Cambridge on Friday, August 4, at 8:00 pm. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
Led by Music Director and Conductor George Ogata, this year's theme is "The Joy of Life and Rejuvenation.” The orchestra will perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, "Pathétique," and Alexander Scriabin's "The Poem of Ecstasy."
MITSPO has been the preeminent summer community orchestra for more than twenty years. Composed of emerging musicians from all throughout the Greater Boston Area, MITSPO hosts one concert each summer, making it a popular evening for music fans of all ages. The summer concerts consistently fill up the MIT Kresge Auditorium, a 1,200-seat venue, with permanent fans and new attendees each year. MIT Professional Education has been associated with the all-volunteer orchestra since its inception.
Note: Tickets do not need to be purchased for this event. However, it is first-come, first-served, meaning we cannot guarantee seating at the time of the event. Please come early to claim your seat.
