Mending an old garment lends it new life. Visible mending—the practice of mending creatively to make a patch apparent—is a way to show that what we have is worthy of repair, and, ultimately, that we too are worth saving. Doing so oneself, by hand, can be an act of slowed connection with the garment and lets us take a step away from frenzied consumption and toward a more sustainable vision of the world.

Join queer mender and natural dyer Maggie Ruth Haaland for an introduction to creating unique denim and woven patches. We will learn basic stitches and mending techniques, and then enjoy stitching together. We will co-create the space and time to rest and weave community—and to craft something beautiful in the process.

Mending supplies will be provided. Please bring an item of your own to repair. Beginners are warmly welcome.

The hands-on session will take place in the Materials Lab on the Lower Level.

$15 materials fee. Registration is required and space is limited; registration will open on this form, beginning on Wednesday, November 22, at 10am. Materials fee must be paid to confirm registration. Please email [email protected] or call 617-495-1440 to join the waitlist.

Minimum age of 14; no previous experience required.
