Join guest chef Shruti Mehta to master two classics of Indian cuisine!
The most popular Indian culinary dishes tend to originate in the northwest Indian states, including Punjab, where recipes were developed in the royal kitchens of the Muglah Empire (1526-1857), incorporating rich flavor profiles and multiple spices. Indians adapted and evolved these recipes, often making spicier versions. This hands-on class will feature two very special dishes from the north. First, we’ll make Vegetable Biryani (with layers of vegetables, spiced yogurt, and saffron speckled rice. We’ll also make flavorful Saag Paneer, a well-loved vegetarian side dish focusing on spinach and paneer – India’s fresh, acid-set soft cheese.
As part of Powisset Farm’s Guest Chef Series, Indian Culinary Classcis is taught by Shruti Mehta, who has been teaching Indian cooking to Boston-area Indian food aficionados for over 25 years. In addition to sharing the distinguished culinary traditions of India, Shruti is a designer of ethnic Indian clothing.
