The final program in the yearlong Imperiled Bodies lecture series at Brandeis University, Imperiled but not Invisible: Memory, Resistance and Art, will feature photographer and activist Renee Cox. Throughout her career, Cox has used portraiture and self-portraiture to empower imperiled bodies and combat racist, sexist stereotypes. In this talk, Cox will discuss her practice of serving as an avatar for characters such as the super-heroine Raje and the 18th-century Jamaican national hero Queen Nanny of the Maroons to re-imagine Black constitutions and futures.
Attend in person or online; registration is required.
