Ian Coury is a Brazilian 10-string bandolim (mandolin) player currently studying at Berklee. Catherine Bent is an English-born cellist and Berklee professor. The two have a musical connection that transcends their backgrounds and crystallizes around their passion for Brazilian choro music.
They revel in arranging lesser-known music from the genre, as well as originals and other relatives of this virtuosic Brazilian genre: forró, samba, and MPB. The two brilliant musicians and their unique instrumentation conjure a stunning palette of colors and emotions, foregrounding improvisation, dialogue, and a spirit of alegria.
Admission $20, $10 for youth under 18.
**Note that attendees will be required to remain masked during the concert and should be prepared to show proof of vaccination.**
The Dot Jazz Series is presented by Mandorla Music and Greater Ashmont Main Street.
