The Rose Art Museum presents Encore Presentations. This series highlights the museum’s long history of engaging emerging and leading contemporary artists in critical conversations. This Encore Presentation features a discussion between artist Rick Lowe and Christopher Bedford, Rose Director (2012–2016).
Rick Lowe (b. 1961) roots his socially engaged art practice in community building. Originally trained as a painter, Lowe reenvisioned his practice in the 1990s to address his community's social, economic, and cultural needs more directly. In 1993, he and a group of fellow artists restored a block and a half of rundown buildings in the historically Black Third Ward neighborhood of Houston and founded Project Row Houses, a multi-use arts venue and community center. This conversation was held in 2016 as part of the series Art | Race | Activism.
Encore Presentations: Rick Lowe will be hosted online, featuring automated closed captions via Zoom. Registration is required.
The Rose is committed to making its virtual programs accessible to all. Please email inquiries and requests to [email protected] if anything else would make your participation more accessible.
