Curated Cuisine is a monthly series at WBUR CitySpace examining all things edible, from the chefs cooking the food to the writers reviewing the recipes. Meet the people shaping the food industry, both local and national and enjoy a post-show bite inspired by the conversation.
Rubato, a modern Hong Kong-style café in Quincy, MA, is starting to capture the imagination of Boston’s culinary scene. But their growing reputation is not just in the Hub, Rubato was recently named one of Bon Appetit’s Best New Restaurants of 2023.
Rubato chef Laurence Louie, his co-founder and wife Rary Ratsifa and the Rubato team have been building on a long culinary tradition in the heart of Quincy. The space was once home to Contempo, the beloved bakery owned by Louie’s mother that the young chef-in-waiting grew up in. Rubato, a music reference to a performer taking liberties with a score, expands on traditional Hong Kong and Cantonese comfort food with fresh ideas including a popular fried chicken bolo sandwich and Nutella filled Hong Kong french toast.
Join Irene Li, James Beard Award-winning co-founder of Mei Mei Dumplings and Prepshift, in conversation with Louie. Guests will enjoy a bite from Rubato after the conversation.
This event is co-produced by Boston University Metropolitan College Programs in Food & Wine.
